Join us for our weekly Monday Night Swing social dance, at Kårhuset in Lund.  Mondays also offer Lindy Hop classes on many levels.

we have our new Solo Jazz tracks, which you can combine with Lindy Hop classes that same Tuseday evenings.

On Wednesdays,

our friends at Cats’ Corner have their big weekly social at Moriskan. Wednesdays also offer Lindy Hop classes on all levels, including the must-have swing-out block, Balboa on two levels, and Swing Kids.

We only got an advanced Lindy Hop class and the last social dance at Cats’ Corner left before we take a winter break. More in the calendar and the printable overview.

Registration for the spring 2024 courses just opened, but no stress as everyone who registers until noon December 21st has the same chance of getting a spot as we will raffle the queue order. Read updated info about raffle and queue.

Social dances and events

We start the year with an unofficial Blues dance party January 6th. Monday Night Swing kicks off January 15th and Cats’ Corners start their Wednesday Night Hop January 10th. All three include a beginners drop-in class to send your friends to.

Wednesday Night Hop at Moriskan ris run by Cats Corner, a separate society with a separate membership, but we highly recommend it anyway.

We both need volunteers to make it happen.

Beginner Lindy Hop weekends are already open for registration and while the summer activities are in full swing, we open registration for the autumn semester courses at noon on July 18th. However, there is no stress as everyone who registers until noon July 25th has the same chance to get a spot.

There will be lots of Lindy Hop courses on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays!

New for this year is that we will offer lots of interesting shorter blocks of classes, including courses that run on an even/uneven week

On Sundays and Mondays, there will also be family-friendly “Lindy Hop & Solo Jazz Study Circles” where you choose if you want to, social dance, train yourself, share something and/or participate when others share.

There may also be a Swing Kids/Teens course

Wednesdays in Lunds stadspark, Swing In The Park, premieres June 15th and will this year be expanded to include swing Kids/Teens dance classes. Sunday swing at Ribban beach in Malmö kicks off July 3dr.

Lindy Hop Fall semester

Höstterminen kommer att bjuda på massor av kurser på flera nivåer i Malmö och Lund. Traditionellt är de flesta kurser i Lund på Måndagar med några kurser på Söndagar. I Malmö är det tisdagar och onsdagar som gäller. Jämfört med våren 2022 hoppas vi kunna erbjuda fler kurser på onsdagar och (nästan) lika många på tisdagar

What would you like to improve in your Lindy Hop?

Själv skulle jag t.ex. vilja bli bättre på att (orka) dansa snabbt utan att fuska. Fuska är jag redan bra på 🙂

Baktanken med frågan är att vi i instruktörsgruppen diskuterar vad som krävs för att bli en bra dansare. Vi har idag basblock A-C som går igenom grunderna och sen D och E där innehållet är helt fritt och varierar mellan terminer. Den som går D (medel) många gånger och för olika instruktörer har då ofta utsatts för mycket av det som krävs för att söka till E men det saknas lätt några pusselbitar. Pusselbitar vi försöker identifiera och paketera i kortare temakurser. Tanken är att ersätta i första hand D men massa små kurser i allt från “snabba fötter” till “slow and groovy” och “improvisation & musikanpassning” så att du kan välja både det du tycker är kul och det du behöver mest samt instruktörer kan välja det de är mest inspirerade av och bäst på att lära ut.

Feedback som skrivs i denna tråd eller i andra hand på mail tar vi med oss till en helhelg i början på juni då instruktörsgruppen kommer att gräva ner sig ordentligt i ämne.

The pandemic is not over but it is now entering a new phase where restrictions are no longer needed.

We’ll keep most of our precautionary measures for a while longer but can now soon start social dances and increase the number of course participants who in several venues have now been limited to 14 people.

Most courses have already been postponed to the middle/end of February, thus it is not too late to sign-up.

Vaccination remains important to reduce the risk of infection and greatly reduce the risk of serious illness. The interval for the 3rd dose has now been reduced to 3 months.

You do not to be a Swedish citizen to get vaccinated in Sweden!

We are also pleased to announce that our friends from Cats’ Corner will be arranging their fantastic Lindy Hop dance camp Malmö Spring Jump the 13-15th May 2022. During the weekend, a beginners’ weekend will also be offered in collaboration with HepTown

Decisive factors for the removal of the restrictions in Sweden

• Knowledge of omicron with several international studies showing milder disease
• The number of covid patients at intensive care is stably low despite massive spread of infection
• High vaccination coverage with a high vaccination rate in recent weeks

What about Lindy Hop courses and social dances?

• The social dances will return in mid-February. Preliminary start the 14th February
• We can now accept more than 14 participants for a course in a large 170m2 room but will continue to avoid unnecessarily large course groups.
• We keep most of our previous measures such as keeping the partner rotation on the courses down for a while longer
• Staying home when you are ill has always been a good idea. Let’s make it a permanent rule!
• We still like to see that participants are vaccinated, but from 9 February it is no longer a requirement we can make.

Registration for the spring semester courses opened yesterday, but no stress as everyone who registers until 12.00 on 28 December has the same chance of getting a spot as we will raffle the queue order.

New for this year is that Wednesdays will offer various shorter theme courses. Some of these are already published and open for registration. More will be published and open for registration on the 12th and 19th of January. Feel free to come up with suggestions and wishes! Do you want to teach a theme course yourself?

New restrictions from the 23rd of December 2021

What do they mean for our courses and social dances? According to estimates, the peak of the spread of infection will be in January, thus restrictions can possibly be released before the course semester start in mid-February, but at present no dates have been set. If they are not released and for courses and social dances before that, it could look like the following

Social dances

At public events, to which our social dances in their current form are assumed to belong, only seated guests are allowed if there are more than 20 people. A return to antisocial dance training with a permanent partner and pre-registration may be relevant here as a substitute for the social dances

Classes

For culture and leisure activities, requirements are set at 10 square meters per person. This, our courses should follow even if the course activities are closed arrangements that are not legally covered by these requirements. A smaller number of participants in each course and a return to smaller rotation groups may be relevant here, or a delayed course start.

A maximum of 50 people when renting out places for private gatherings applies to those who rent out venues for classes to us, but we are already staying way below that.

In October, the new autumn term in Lindy Hop finally starts in Malmö and Lund. It’s not too late to sign up. Already tonight, 27 Sep, is the last Monday we dance in the ballroom at the Grand Hotel and on Monday the 4th of October we are back in the Gasquesalen in Kårhuset. On September 29, several restrictions will be lifted for those who are vaccinated. We can then have more normal courses and social dances where everyone is allowed to dance with everyone. A hugely important step for our normally very inclusive swing scene.

Vaccination requirements?

Due to FHM’s easing of the restrictions for vaccinated and new restrictions for unvaccinated, starting september 29th, we require that you are vaccinated or have natural immunity. FHM is very clear, those who are not vaccinated should not dance.
You can download your certificate here, but we do not promise to check everyone as it would take too much time and resources from courses and social dances.
In order not to discriminate, you are also admitted with a recent negative test for covid-19.
This would then apply as long as FHM has special restrictions for the unvaccinated.

Social Dance

När vi går tillbaka till en öppnare socialdans är det trots vaccination extra viktigt att stanna hemma om du är minsta krasslig och respektera ett ”nej tack” om du bjuder upp någon, som vi alltid gör, men var lite extra observant då alla ännu inte är bekväma med att dansa med många..

HepTown återgår till måndagar på Kårhuset. Cats’ Corner har socialdans på onsdagar som just nu och fram t.o.m. 6 oktober håller till på Brändan, men flyttar sen till Ungdomens hus för att sen åter vara tillbaka på Moriskan i November

Ikväll 4/8 är sista Swing in the park! Kvällen inkluderar nybörjarkurs, en avrostningskurs för de som behöver komma igång efter uppehåll, samt dans till swingDJ. Tidigare på kvällen erbjuds även en inofficiell akrobatikkurs

Avrostningskurser blir det även i Malmö som temakurser med start redan 18/8 då det förmodligen även någon typ av socialdans med Cats Corner i salen nedanför kl 18-21…

Flera nybörjarhelger i Lindy Hop är redan öppna för anmälan med den första utomhus nu i helgen den 7-8 augusti!

Kurserna som pausades hösten 2020 har nu fått nya datum i september hösten 2021. Några har t.o.m. platser kvar och är öppna för anmälan. Om du hade en plats är den fortfarande din.

I oktober börjar vi sen en helt ny hösttermin. Alla detaljer är inte spikade. Mer information kommer löpande här och anmälan öppnar kl 12 den 12 augusti.

Vi gör vårt bästa för att följa och överträffa gällande restriktioner. När du dansar hos oss förbinder du dig att gör det samma. Se vad som gäller här inkluderar information om rotation och hur det funkar utan partner. Vi kommer att vara försiktiga under hösten trots att många då kommer att vara vaccinerade.

Håll ut, ta han om och vaccinera dig så kan vi snart dansa som vanligt igen…

Most spring courses have already started but there are still som theme classes, a beginners weekend and a summer course to sign-up for this spring.  In the middle of this we open the registration for fall courses…

Lindy Hop registration for the fall will open as follows

• Registration for A Beginners Lindy Hop weekends is open!
• B will open at noon on the 20th of April
• Registration for C-F and theme classes will open at noon on Thursday the  14th of June.

Registrants for the highest 2 (E and F) that want to take a higher level than they have done before will need to do a small audition (no big scary pear audition)  on Wednesday the 5th of September at Moriskan in Malmö, 18.15-19.45. If you sign-up for the same level you will not need to do the audition.

The Helsingborg crew is planning some a beginners weekend and some other classes that will be announced by the end of May

Half of the semester on E-F in Malmö and D i Lund will be replaced by theme classes of various length. Most theme classes are now on-line. A few more and descriptions of them all to be announced soon…
